Planned Giving or Making a Bequest

Thank you for considering including a gift to Endangered Species International (ESI) in your will or living trust. Regardless of your age or wealth, a bequest will provide ESI invaluable support to save endangered species and wild ecosystems. Your gift is a warranty that our concrete actions will make a big difference in the field.

Leaving a gift or bequest to ESI in your will provides several benefits:

Simplicity. Just a few sentences in your will or trust are all that is needed. The official bequest language for Endangered Species International is: "I, [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to Endangered Species International [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose."

Flexibility. Bequests are revocable; you can make changes to the provisions in your will or trust anytime in the future.

Versatility. You can structure the bequest to leave a specific item or amount of money, make the gift contingent on certain events, or leave a percentage of your estate to Endangered Species International.

Tax Relief. If your estate is subject to estate tax, your gift is entitled to an estate tax charitable deduction for the gift's full value.

Examples of gifts may include:

  • Residual bequest - after making provisions for your family and friends, the balance of your belongings (legally referred to as your “estate”) is donated to Endangered Species International.

  • A percentage of your estate - where a specific percentage of your estate is donated.

  • A pecuniary bequest - where a specific sum of money is donated.

  • A life insurance/assurance policy.

  • A life income plan - where you set up a trust for your dependents, providing them with a regular income, while the principal of the trust (the original amount invested) is paid to your favorite cause after a specified time period - this can also be known as a “charitable remainder trust”.

It is important for you to make an appointment with your financial or legal advisor. When you include ESI in your plans, you become a member of the Legacy Circle, a special group of ESI friends and partners.
